Plan Your Tanzania Adventure

A little preparation helps you make the most of Tanzania. Choose your travel dates, preferred pace and the experiences that matter to you, from wildlife safaris and mountain trekking to Zanzibar beaches.

Use this guide as a starting point, then check the official information linked below before you travel. Entry rules, health advice, insurance requirements and flight schedules can change. Share your route and questions with Tanview Safaris so we can help you plan the practical details.

Visa Information

Check the visa requirements that apply to your nationality, passport and purpose of travel before booking. Tanzania Immigration is the official source for visa categories, applications and supporting documents.

The official eVisa terms require a passport with at least six months’ validity and at least one unused visa page when applying. Some nationalities require a referral visa, so allow time and follow the guidance for your circumstances.

Apply through the official Tanzania eVisa portal and review its terms and requirements. Keep copies of your passport, approvals, accommodation details and onward itinerary. Final admission is decided by immigration officials at the entry point.

Flights & Transportation

Choose your arrival airport to suit your route. Kilimanjaro International Airport is a useful gateway for northern Tanzania journeys, while Zanzibar has its own international airport for island stays. Dar es Salaam may suit other mainland routes.

Discuss arrival and departure times with us before finalising flights. Safari driving days and transfers need realistic travel time, and domestic flights may have baggage limits that differ from international airlines. Confirm the allowance with your carrier.

Share your flight details with Tanview Safaris when arranging transfers. If you combine a mainland safari with Zanzibar, leave a sensible buffer between separate flights and check the terms of each booking.

Health & Safety

Arrange a consultation with a qualified travel-health professional before departure, ideally at least a month ahead. Advice depends on your route, health history and activities. Review the CDC Tanzania travel-health guidance for current information.

Ask your clinician about routine vaccinations, malaria prevention and any entry-related vaccination certificates for your itinerary. Pack your usual medication, insect repellent and sun protection, and follow professional advice on food and drinking water.

On safari, follow your guide’s instructions, keep a respectful distance from wildlife and remain in designated areas. A Kilimanjaro trek involves high altitude: discuss suitability with your clinician and ask about the route, acclimatisation schedule and emergency arrangements before committing.

Insurance

Check that your travel insurance covers the activities in your itinerary, medical treatment, evacuation, cancellation and interruption. For Kilimanjaro, confirm the policy’s altitude limit and trekking cover with your insurer.

Mainland Tanzania introduced mandatory inbound travel insurance for eligible foreign visitors from 1 October 2026. Zanzibar also has mandatory inbound insurance. Requirements, exemptions and the policy you need depend on your journey, including your first point of entry.

Check the latest guidance through NIC’s official mainland portal and the official Zanzibar portal before buying. Review ZIC’s clarification for combined itineraries and confirm how it applies to you. Keep your insurance documents and emergency contacts accessible.

Climate

Tanzania offers different experiences throughout the year. Rainfall influences wildlife movement, vegetation and road conditions, so the best dates depend on the parks you want to visit and your priorities.

Conditions vary between the coast, safari highlands and mountains. Pack light layers for warm days, a warmer layer for early starts and evenings, and rain protection when appropriate. Kilimanjaro requires a separate mountain clothing and equipment plan.

Use the Tanzania Tourism seasonal guide as a starting point. Tell us whether wildlife viewing, photography, quieter travel or beach time matters most, and we can discuss a route suited to your dates. Weather and wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.
